A message from our Honorary President

Dear Member,

I am pleased to report that your Jersey Lifeboat Association continues to move forward towards our longer-term goals. Having fully paid for the all-weather lifeboat we are now looking to add an inshore craft to our resources.

The Island’s waters can be both treacherous and deceiving. A fast, modern, inshore rescue craft shall be a significant advancement of the JLA’s capabilities and will provide a useful additional SAR asset.

Next Spring we shall take possession of a state-of-the-art Gemini Waverider 880 with twin Mercury outboard motors. We have had keen interest from individuals to join our crew over recent months. During the height of the pandemic we unofficially put further recruitment on hold, as we were looking to assist the ambulance service and also did not wish to increase any risk of Covid-19 infections by initiating new member training courses that were not urgent. We will now be seeking to expand our team of volunteers at every level, and we have enhanced our take-on process to cover any future requirements should we be asked to cover other emergency services. As always, we are grateful for the support of Ports of Jersey.

Our success is thanks to you, our supporters, and our dedicated volunteers. We are blessed to have a most capable, able, and experienced crew surrounded by a dedicated voluntary support network. None of our colleagues are paid, all donations go directly towards the running of the charity. The establishment Jersey’s own independent lifeboat service, where all donations stay on-island, was a momentous achievement. We would like to thank those persons that came up with the brilliant idea to establish an independent lifeboat service for Jersey.

Thank you for your support. Have a great Christmas and stay safe.

Best wishes,

Ben
